Ken Kaylor is the only bowler I’ve ever met who’s so talented and gifted as an artist his work has appeared in People Magazine, and was even commissioned to do a painting for a member of the United States Congress.
Ken Kaylor
But first let’s delve into his bowling at the Virgin River Bowling Center.
Competing in the Mesquite Men’s League, he painted a masterpiece using lanes 7 & 8 as his canvas, and immediately stroked an 8-bagger in a personal-best 269 gem, and followed with a 195 game.
Next, he put the finishing touches on his masterpiece with a 188 game paving the way for a career-high 652 series with a total of 18 strikes and marks on10-of-12 non-split spare attempts.
The first thing a person will notice when seeing Kaylor deliver a bowling ball is his incredibly smooth delivery, and as the bowling ball is released you don’t hear a sound when ball hits the lane.
Away from bowling, his talent as an artist and painter has even taken him to Berlin, Germany after receiving a call from Sony Corporation asking him to come to the giant Sony office complex located within shouting distance of the historic Brandenburg Gate to supervise the painting of a giant mural on the building’s dome ceiling.
But that’s not surprising given given his long list of clients which include the likes of Disney, Paramount Studios and Bush Gardens. And as part of the Titanic World Tour Show, some of his paintings appeared in People Magazine, and recently he painted a giant mural on a wall in the home of Cresent Hardy, the former congressman from Nevada.
And some of his incredible landscape paintings can be seen at Ace Hardware in Mesquite, and also online at kenkaylorart.com.
On his bucket list is to bowl a 300 game and return to Europe to do landscape paintings in visits to places like Venice, Florence, Rome and Paris.
In other pin action, Mike Saldivar (727-258) had only one open in a tip-top outing, and it’s a slam dunk that Michael “Smurffzzz” Ramirez is on a trajectory headed for his first 700 series before the sun sets on the 2022-23 season. So, it’s not surprising he almost reached that milestone last week with a standout 690 series on games of 235, 229 and 226 with 25 strikes.
And Dave Pershing’s (640-224) first-rate effort should raise his 194 average, and Britt Kesl (662-238) won numerous awards in his rodeo circuit days and is now beginning to accumulate a growing number of 600 series scores.
Meanwhile, Dan Aslin (621-224) had another good week, and if you’re a hiker and looking for a challenging hike like the grueling 800-mile Hayduke Trail, he’s the man to see, and Logan Hendrick (615-226) and his two-handed delivery fired 20 strikes and a clean 219 helping raise his average from 178 to 180.
Dennis Craft (612-229) made his weekly trek from St. George a good one by shooting his umpteenth 600 with marks on an impressive 14-of-15 non-split spare shots, and both Garth Turner (598-204) and Jerry Holloway (597-222) fell just shy of a 600, while a 212 helped power Al Legan to a 591.
In single game play, John Hollaway (624) rocketed from a 179 to a 257, Jan Kusy fired 8 strikes in a clean 243, Rob Cormani booked a 233, and Jimmy Webb delivered eight strikes in a 222 effort just hours befoe leaving for Florida to play in a senior softball tournament.
Josue Mendoza uncorked a 4-bagger in a 221, Paul Levan smacked a season-high 221, Harry Uncles continued a run of deuce games with a 217, and Maury Hardman was a standout bowler in his prime in both Idaho and Utah bagged a 214 last week.
Finally, Jerry Sibo put together a 5-bagger in a 205, Andrew Christensen had seven strikes in a 205, Dennis Hatley has been a Green Bay Packers fan all his life and logged a 203.
On the women’s side of the ledger, Bev Cormani’s strong outing shared high-series honors atop the scoring food chain with a 623 series on games of 247, 192 and 184 keyed by marks on 13-of-14 non-split spare shots.
And sharing the top spot with Cormani is Diane Marget with 15 strikes also in a 623 set with a clean 223 game.
Meanwhile, Sandy Sheppard began City High Rollers play with a less-than-cheery 159, but engineered a brilliant turnaround in her game with games of 235 and 224 for a 619 series, and Reiko Schultz rolled a season-high 583 set and is still determined to surpass a career-high 632 series.
And LoriJo Turner (598-204) has had to temper expectations for the season due to a balky knee issue on her slide foot that keeps barking to let her know knee surgery is past due, Jane Burgoyne’s 203 paved the way for a 540, and Evelyn Hooley KO’d 507 pins.
In single game action, LeeAnn Harms (540) fired eight strikes including a 4-bagger in a 235, Lauren Deen blew past a 124 average with a 5-bagger en route to a season high 213, and a 212 helped Bobbie Robbins (525) ended a recent scoring funk.
Cher Erhart delivered a clutch spare and strike in the 9th & 10th frames leading to a 201, and Cheryl Rogers (555) had only one open frame in a 200, while Terri Dibble tossed a season-high 195.
