Mesquite Man Arrested in

Connection with Two Fires

Mesquite, NV – On Tuesday, August 23, Mesquite Police Department detectives  concluded their investigation into two separate arson incidents they determined were  intentionally set by the same suspect.

On June 7, officers responded to a small suspicious fire inside a business near the  electrical box that appeared to have been lit intentionally. The business owner noticed  the smoke and quickly extinguished the fire before substantial damage occurred.

On June 11, officers responded to a fire in the Redd Hills Commercial Park parking  lot. Officers arrived and attempted to extinguish it but were unsuccessful due to the  rapidly growing flames. Mesquite Fire & Rescue arrived and quickly contained the fire.  A metal storage container sustained approximately $50,000 in damage during the  blaze.

Officers and Detectives spoke to witnesses, gathered evidence, and identified an  adult male suspect for both incidents. After their exhaustive investigation, Detectives  located the male and safely placed him under arrest.

Kenny Ayard, 34, of Mesquite, NV, was arrested and charged with felony third (3rd)  degree arson, felony fourth (4th) degree arson, and felony injury to property over  $5,000.

Due to the felony charges, Ayard was transported to Clark County Detention Center  in Las Vegas.

In response to the arrest, Chief MaQuade Chesley said, “The officers did a stellar job  discovering the evidence that linked the two crime scenes and led to the arrest of the  offender. The daily joint effort between Mesquite Police and Mesquite Fire makes  Mesquite a safe place to live and recreate”.
