Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Saturday in a high-scoring affair where the Virgin Valley High baeball team bested Truckee, 12-6.
The Bulldogs fired up the offense in the second inning. Virgin Valley scored two runs when Drake Wakefield tripled.
Virgin Valley pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. when Aidan Litzenberger singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Virgin Valley tallied five runs in the fifth inning. Litzenberger, Wakefield and Bryce Intagliata each drove in runs in the frame.
Truckee scored three runs in the seventh inning. Truckee scored its runs on a single by Dylan Sumner.
Kyler Sudweeks was the winning pitcher for Virgin Valley. The pitcher allowed two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven. Intagliata threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Damon Bacon took the loss for Truckee. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits and striking out two.
The Bulldogs tallied 14 hits in the game. Wakefield, Litzenberger, and Stratton Waite each had multiple hits for Virgin Valley. Litzenberger and Wakefield each managed three hits to lead Virgin Valley Varsity Bulldogs.
Sumner went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Truckee in hits.
Virgin Valley also was named the Academic state champion as a team with a 3.52 grade point average for the whole team
