As part of their 25th anniversary celebration, Mesquite United Methodist Church has contributed a check for $2,500 to the BAMBI Project which contributes to the Mesquite Reads program. This summer reading program is for K thru 3rd grade and is part of the curriculum in Mesquite, Bunkerville, and Beaver Dam Elementary Schools.
The contribution is an outgrowth of the BAMBI reading program that originally began when we had a maternity ward at Mesa View Regional Hospital, and now it continues as an effective tool in grade school children’s education. As a way of increasing enthusiasm to read, books are selected for each participating child according to their interest.
In addition, Mesquite United Methodist Church women knit over 300 winter hats for children in numerous grades in each of the school districts. This year the hats will be blessed in a church service on Dec. 1 before being given to the students sometime before Christmas.
The church also gives school supplies twice a year so teachers can have necessary supplies in their classroom without having to buy the supplies themselves. Supporting education efforts in our area is a high priority at Mesquite United Methodist Church.
