The Beaver Dam High girls volleyball team continued their recent successful run by notching two road victories last week over El Capitan, AZ and Founders Academy of Las Vegas.

The Lady D-Backs won both matches by 3-2 scores, coming from behind in the final set in both wins.

BDHS has now run its winning streak to five straight as the Lady D-Backs prepare for their South 1-A League opener on Friday.

After dropping the first two sets at El Capitan on Tuesday in Colorado City, the Lady D-Backs rallied to win the next two to pull even and force a winner-take-all fifth set. BDHS fell behind early, but stormed back to capture the set 15-12 and secure the win.

“Our girls were flat after the first two sets,” BDHS head coach Charyn McDonnell said. “They had to work through their frustrations in the final three sets to win. It was good for the girls to go through that experience.”

Shy Pierce led the way for the Lady D-Backs with 11 kills while Elizabeth Jensen added 10 kills and seven service aces.

Nancy Lopez also recorded seven aces and had a strong passing game.

Lizzy Garlick chipped in with three kills and Christina Leach added two.

In the victory over Founders Academy on Friday in Las Vegas, the Lady D-Backs prevailed by scores of 25-15, 18-25, 25-14, 19-25 and 15-13.

Beaver Dam will open league play at home on Friday against Sandy Valley at 5 p.m. in the Snake Pit.
