The first test for 3A Sunrise League teams begin Friday night in the Dawg Pound as the hometown Bulldogs face off against the Eagles from Boulder City. The Eagles and the Dawgs along with the Pirates from Moapa Valley are the only Sunrise League teams who ended preseason play with winning records. The Dawgs and Eagles are 3-1 with the Pirates sitting at 3-2 despite a tougher schedule.

Boulder City and VVHS’s had common opponents during the season. The Eagles lost to Cimarron- Memorial 32-19 while the Dawgs succumbed to Spartans 42-24 last Friday. One other opponent Pahrump Valley was shutout by the Dawgs 20-0 while the Eagles defeated the Trojans 20-18. The Eagles are led by quarterback Parker Reynolds who put up some impressive numbers so far this season. Reynolds is 46-75 for 555 yards and 5 T.D’s with 3interceptions. Leading the ground attack is Devon Walker with 241 yards on 56 carries and 2 T.D’s. Junior Trey Davis leads the Eagles with 16 receptions for 240 yards and 2 T.D’s. Defensive backs Dakota Cristian and Matthew Felsenfeld are aggressive and lead the Eagles with 13 and 12 tackles respectively. Davis leads the Eagle charge from his linebacker position.

The hometown Bulldogs will return a rested Wyatt Delano who did not play in the Spartan game. Delano has rushed for 422 yards in three games and no doubt assume his role as the workhorse in the Bulldog ground attack. Quarterback Mebs Hollingshead has passed for 253 yards in two games since coming back from injury and will be counted on for run-pass options. The big Dawgs upfront will be counted on to open the holes on offense and close them down on the defensive side. Linebacker Tanner Fielding will be counted to use his speed to keep the Eagles passer from getting free.

This should be one of the best games on the docket for 3A Conference openers. Toss a coin and pick a winner but I think the hometown crowd will be worth a win, Bulldogs by six points.
