The local Virgin Valley Action Group hosted a town hall at the Mesquite Library on May 18, 2019, to share with local citizens the concept of the Green New Deal, a 10-year mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good, living-wage jobs in the process. The Green New Deal’s plan is to attempt to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in 10 years and to create a more equitable economic system for all Americans.
Sunrise Movement, a national youth environmental group, has been holding town halls in churches, classrooms, and union halls across the country this spring. This army of young people feels climate change is an urgent priority across America, ending corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and electing leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. Polls by Business Insider show that the Green New Deal is broadly supported among registered voters of both parties
The concept of the Green New Deal is that in moving toward an alternative energy economy, stakeholders such as businesses, workers, and the disadvantaged should look for opportunities to form alliances on initiatives to actively combat climate change. Mesquite citizens in attendance agreed much more could be done in their community to strive for a better, cleaner city.

AOC’s offspring have arrived in Mesquite. It’s obviously time for the rest of us to man our butterfly nets and round them up!
