Bad news is that the mural painting scheduled for this Saturday at the Women’s Center has been cancelled.
The good news is that it will be rescheduled to May. As soon as details are worked out, we will notify everyone.
Thank you all for volunteering for this community project. The project was postponed because of the zoning code. Painting the mural requires City Council approval via a conditional use permit, which entails a public hearing. It will take a month  (May 14th) before we can get the request in front of the Council. I understand the Cancer Society wants to do a mural as well, which can be reviewed at the same time.

If you have some time this Saturday, April 13, please stop by 150 North Yucca campus and be part of a really worthwhile community project that will be of benefit to everyone who comes to the Willow side of the 150 N Yucca campus.

You can be part of a group of volunteers who are going to work a couple hours starting at 8 a.m. on April 13, painting a mural on the Women’s History and Culture Center wall that faces the parking lot. Visitors coming to any of our rooms will see the wall when they walk by. But instead of a tired worn out wall, they will see a lovely mural you have been part of, and it will put them in a good mood before they ever get to your door.

And, for those of us who are artistically challenged, the best part is that the mural is a “paint by the numbers” project. All you need to do is choose a color and paint inside the lines where that color is shown. And if you can stay only a little time on Saturday, that’s OK. Someone else will finish up whatever you start.

The icing on the cake is, that every time you come to a meeting at Room 17, 18, 19, 21, 22 or 23, you will see the mural and know that you were a part of making it happen. How’s that for a big return on a small investment of time!!

Besides working with volunteers from around the community that you may not have met before, hopefully you will see some of your old sidekicks there too, and can enjoy a on hour or two on Saturday with them, congratulating each other on your new found artistic talents.
