If you plan to attend the Mesquite Toes Spring Spectacular you can bet they’ll be firing up the old pickup truck and rocking the house at the same time.

The Mesquite Toes Tap Team is stepping in opposite directions with a little bit of country and a little bit of Rock-n-Roll. During their three performances April 12 and 13, the Mesquite Community Theatre audience members are in for a treat.

The Mesquite-Toes Dance Troupe is a 501(c)3 charity organization dedicated to bringing the joy of dance to seniors while giving back to the community through outreach and performances as well as direct financial contributions.

With members ranging in age from the 40’s to the 80’s, collectively the Toes have 26 children, 54 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Their annual Spring Variety Show is one of three major fundraising events the Toes produce that allow them to continue their much-loved work and contribution to the Mesquite community.

The Mesquite Toes Tap Team was originally founded by former Artistic Director/Choreographer Vicki Eckman who retired in 2016. Eckman took the MTTT, whose members at one time averaged 71 years old, to places unimagined, even to New York City to perform during a halftime show for the New York Knicks basketball team.

Under Eckman’s “guiding steps” the MTTT had many ‘Overseas’ performances on the Holland Cruise line as well. Eckman finished her career with the MTTT with a dynamic spring spectacular show which featured all the places she had taken them in the MTTT very first themed show appropriately titled, “Traveling with the Toes.”

Judy Edgington stepped up to the plate where Eckman left off and added some dynamic new moves, new music and even a few new dancers to the shows. The choreography is more intricate, complicated and upbeat. It’s as if the team’s average age went down and its energy went up.
