Mesquite Local News representative Barbara Ellestad, left, announced the Sponsor’s Choice recipient in the February’s Food for Thought art exhibit for the Virgin Valley Artist’s Association during the reception held on, Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center. Kathleen Burkholz won for her art piece title “An Apple a Day.”

Mesquite Local News was the sponsor of February’s Virgin Valley Artist’s exhibit, “Food for Thought.” The valley artists also held a month-long food drive for the Virgin Valley Food Bank along with the first, and hopefully annual, edible art contest. Winners of the edible art contest and the entries can be seen at www.mesquitelocalnews.com. This year there were some pretty remarkable entries, the artist’s hope to generate more interest in the competition for next year’s exhibit.

Dianne Wright won People’s Choice for her clay piece titled “Diet Tomorrow”. Visit the Mesquite Local News website for more of February’s winners. Photos by Teri Nehrenz

The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about membership, upcoming exhibitions, and art and pottery classes, see the VVAA website at www.mesquitefineartscenter.com or talk with the frontdesk volunteer at the Gallery.
