Virgin Valley High School’s David Shane-Carson accepted a scholarship to play football at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, Monday afternoon at VVHS. The scholarship was an academic scholarship but Shane-Carson is eager to play football.

Carson, a defensive back and wide receiver for the Bulldogs, will report for summer workouts prior to the fall season. The Highlanders, a Division 3 program, went 7-2 for the 2018 season in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. They will return a predominately sophomore and junior class squad.

“I wasn’t sure I would get the scholarship until I received a call to sign up for admission,” said Carson. “The scholarship is for $18,000 per year. It is a small, 600 students approximately, private school where I will be majoring in criminal justice. My playing in the ‘Down Under Bowl’ in Australia really helped in getting the offer plus traveling alone down under will help me adjust to being so far away from home.”

Carson is the son of John William and TiAnna Carson of Mesquite.
