The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog basketball team had the unenviable task of playing what could be the best team in Southern Nevada basketball Tuesday night, Democracy Prep. The Bulldogs drove back up to Mesquite after falling to the Blue Knights 98-27. The loss was a stinging defeat as it was possible the largest deficit in VVHS history. It surpassed the 92-27 loss by the 2007-2008 Bulldogs against the #5 national rated Boyd Anderson HS in the Rock City Classic. The Bulldogs started strong against the Blue Knights trailing by only a score of 18-13 after one period of play. The Blue Knights seemed to go in hyper drive as they outscored the Dawgs 32-8 in the second period and 48-6 in the second half. The Knights had five players in double figures led by sophomore Chancellor Johnson’s 27 points. The Bulldogs were led by Will Barnum’s 11 points. The Dawgs finished with a 4-6 league record and 5-17 overall. The good news is that the Dawgs will return 11 players off this squad next year including four starters. Coach Mark Barnum will finally have his first experienced team of his two year tenure. Keep the faith Bulldog faithful and wait till next year.
