To the Editor,

I believe that we in the Virgin Valley are fortunate to have an opportunity to watch professional basketball in a city of our size as the Desert Dogs are now back at their home court – the VV High School “new gym – after a successful road trip to New York state where they won 2 of 3 games. What else is new for 2019 is that they are the Mesquite Desert Dogs, reflecting the desires of a new ownership team to become much more involved in a community that supports their on-court efforts.

Coach Carlnel Wiley has joined with Kelly Doyle as Co-Owners of the Desert Dogs to have a team in The Basketball League ( TBL ), which evolved from 2018’s North American Premier Basketball Leaque, with new teams in San Diego, Raleigh ( NC ), Tampa Bay ( FL ), Jamestown ( NY ) and even New York City.

With a game on Wednesday night to be followed by games on Saturday night at 7 pm vs Owensboro ( KY ) and at 3 pm on Sunday with the possibly undefeated Kansas City Tornadoes, our Dogs are competing against teams from much larger cities but have certainly more than held their own with an 8 – 4 record ( 6 – 0 at home ) and 3rd place in the 10-team TBL at the time of this writing. At half-time on Sunday afternoon, there will be an Olympic Style Tae Kwon Do demonstration by participants in classes at the Mesquite Recreation Center.

The Desert Dogs held a Public Welcome Practice Session at the Rec Center on Wednesday and will be doing this again on Saturday from 3 pm – stop by if you can. Also, several of the Dogs players will be in our Heart Walk at 9 am on Friday morning.

I am now assisting the Desert Dogs Ownership Team as their Community Liaison.

Sincerely, Rich Green
