It’s “Healthy Heart Month.” The City of Mesquite Athletics & Leisure Services Department along with Mesa View Regional Hospital invite you to join them for the Fifteenth Annual Mesquite Heart Walk.

A few of the Mesquite Desert Dogs players will join many of our residents in the Heart Walk. They hope to meet as many as possible to chat about basketball. The players will also be at VJs Sports Bar on Mesquite Blvd about 11:30 a.m.

For more information on the heart walk please call Beth Caplinger of the City of Mesquite Leisure Services Department 346-8732 or Doris Baeza of Mesa View Regional Hospital 345- 4363. They will be taking pre-registration at the Mesquite Recreation Center before the event this year to accurately get numbers for the event and ensure that all will receive a shirt.

On Feb. 15 and 16 you can see Bunny Wiseman and Paul Benedict in Love Letters.

A letter speaks volumes and Wiseman and Benedict are wonderful at portraying Andrew Makepeace Ladd 111 and Melissa Gardner in this Pulitzer Prize nominated Drama.

Author, A R Gurney’s brilliance is in allowing the reader the freedom to build the characters, based simply on letters that pass back and forth between them through 50 years of their lives. It is a must see for all. The show is at 7 p.m. on Friday There is a Saturday Matinee Special.  For $20 you can have a noon lunch at Cucina’s before the 2 p.m. show. Limited seating is available for lunch. This is being held as a Mesquite Toes fundraiser; tickets are available at the box office 1 hour prior to showtimes or at The Mesquite Fine Arts Center.

The Mesquite Desert Dogs have some home games this weekend and would like you to join them on Saturday, Feb. 16.  The Dogs will hold a public welcome practice session at the Rec Center at 2:30 before playing the Owensboro, KY Thoroughbreds at VVHS that night at 7 p.m.

Following the game, Coach Carlnel, Kelly Doyle and all the players will have a MEET, EAT & GREET post-game meal at VJs Sports Bar.

The Dogs take on the presently undefeated Kansas City Tornadoes at VVHS at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. This game will also feature a Tae Kwon Do demonstration at half-time by the participants in classes at the Mesquite Rec Center. Come support our local basketball team. Desert Dogs are now in third place in the 10-team TBL. The Dogs record is presently 8-4; they are undefeated at home 6-0.
