Ariel Ponce #14 had her best game of the season, scoring 16 points in the Lady Dawgs 57-41 loss to Moapa Valley

The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog boy and girl basketball teams were crushed Friday night 60-46 and 57-41 respectively in 3A play by their archrival Moapa Valley High School Pirates.

The Boy’s, trailed early 15-9 after one period of play and 35-23, at the break. Moapa continued to increase their lead after three periods, leading 50-33 going into the last period. The Bulldogs managed to outscore the Pirates, 13-10 to end the game. Cameron Noel led the Dawgs with 8 points followed by Will Barnum and Daxon Toone with 7 points each. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-10 for the season. The Bulldogs will host Boulder City on January 15 in 3A play.

The Lady Dogs, like the boys, fell behind early and could not recover against the Pirates losing, 57-41. The Pirates led 10-6 after one period, keeping the pressure on to take a 20-12 lead at the break. The Pirates poured it on in the third period outscoring the Lady Dawgs 22-12 to take a 42-24 lead going into the last period. The Bulldogs outscored the Pirates 17-7 in the final period making the 57-41. Ariel Ponce led the Bulldogs with 16 points followed by Alexis Boatright with 11 points. The Lady Dogs hosted Paranagat Valley on Saturday Jan. 12 before hosting Boulder City on Tuesday Jan. 15. The Dawgs season record fell to 5-10 after the loss.
