Memory Matters Utah/Nevada in conjunction with The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) will offer a frontal-temporal dementia caregiver support group on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 2-4 p.m. at the Mesquite Library.

FTD, commonly referred to as frontotemporal dementia, fronto-temporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), or Picks disease is distinct from other forms of dementia in two important ways:  FTD is a gradual, progressive decline in behavior and/or language (with memory usually relatively preserved); and onset of FTD often occurs in a person’s 50s and 60s, but has been seen as early as 21 and as late as 80 years of age.

While there are currently no treatments to slow or stop the progression of the disease, FTD research is expanding, producing greater understanding of the disorders.

The support group is free and open to anyone caring for someone with this type of dementia.

There will be an information session for Mesquite area senior ladies, 55 yrs. or older who are interested in becoming a Ms. Senior Mesquite 2019 Pageant contestant.

The ladies will be meeting on Monday, January 14 at 2:00 pm, at Scotty’s at Falcon Ridge Golf Club, 1024 Normandy Lane. The information session will answer all your questions about becoming a contestant and what to expect once you do. For more information on Ms. Senior Mesquite and how you can become a contestant contact Gail Laird, 817-807-3951, aagpl@aol.com.”

Remember to send in those event notices. It’s open season and I’m not talking about hunting. The holidays are over and things are going to be happening at the theater, the art gallery, around town and the library that you’ll want folks to know about. Send them to terin.bbm@gmail.com so you can everyone know what’s happening with your group or club.
