Virgin Valley High’s volleyball team cracked the win column for the first time as the Lady Bulldogs captured the Bronze Division at the annual Boulder City Invitational on Saturday in Boulder City.

After playing eight matches in two days at the BC tournament, the Lady Bulldogs returned home Tuesday night to face Sunrise League foe Somerset-Sky Pointe at the VVHS gymnasium.

Sky Pointe swept the Lady Bulldogs, 3-0, by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-16 to improve to 3-1 in league play and 8-8 overall. Virgin Valley is now 0-4 in league and 2-21 overall.

The match against Sky Pointe capped a busy stretch for VVHS which saw them play 10 matches in a five-day span.

In the first game, the Eagles used an early 9-0 run to snap a 5-5 tie and go on to win 25-11.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a quick start in the second game when Sydney Ludvigson served three straight points and Areli Ponce two as VVHS led 6-2. Sky Pointe rallied and used a 10-0 run to go up 18-8. Blocks by Ponce and Nathalie Lagamayo and a kill by Maleena Felshaw kept Virgin Valley close, but the Lady Eagles pulled away to win 25-11.

In the third and final game, Sky Pointe held a slim 14-11 advantage. Sage Bundy had a kill and service point to get VVHS within 14-13, but that would be as close as the Lady Bulldogs would get as Sky Pointe slowly pulled away to record a 25-16 win to close out the match.

Ponce was credited with 10 digs while Juanita Garcia had six. Felshaw added four digs and Shaylie Feltner three.

In the Boulder City tournament, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Tech, Bonanza and Liberty Baptist in pool play on Saturday and were seeded into the Bronze bracket.

Virgin Valley defeated Lincoln County, 2-0, by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 and then exacted revenge against Liberty Baptist with a 2-1 win over the Knights in the championship match. The Lady Bulldogs won by scores of 25-22, 15-25 and 15-13.

Lugvigson was credited with 20 assists against Lincoln County and 14 against Liberty Baptist.

The Lady Bulldogs will host league foe Sunrise Mountain Wednesday at 6 p.m.
