It is crunch time for 3A Division teams as they face the critical part of their schedule. It is no difference for the Virgin Valley High School and the Sunrise Mountain Miners as they face off Friday Oct. 12 at VVHS. On paper, based on records, the Bulldogs should be heavy favorites. The Dawgs are sitting at 7-1 to the Miners 2-5 but, in Sunrise League play the teams each sport a 1-1 record. The Dawgs need to take care of business the next two weeks to insure another championship banner. The Miners, like everyone else, crushed the Rancho Rams 36-7 in their last outing. League leader Moapa Valley destroyed the Miners 48-6 the previous week. The Miners are led by Q.B. Tyree Hayes who has passed for 517 yards and ran for 290 yards. Link Rhodes has been on the receiving end of most of Hayes pass attempts. The Bulldogs will counter with their smash you in the mouth type of football. Line up and hand it off to Delano and the rest of the Bulldog runners until you stop them. The Dawgs need to be careful and not look past the Miners to next week’s big game against archrival Moapa Valley. That game should decide who is the champion and number one seed for the playoffs. The playoff format has been changed as only three teams from each league will compete. Second and third place teams will battle each other with the winners taking on the first seed teams. I’m sure Coach Woods and his staff will keep their charges focused for this game resulting in a 20+ win for the Dawgs.
