Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog soccer team held on to a first period lead of 1-0 to defeat the Sky Point Eagles at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center. The Bulldogs had opportunities early to strike goal but could not finish. The Dawgs controlled most of the first half of play with a strong defensive effort from their back line. Sky Pointe’s goalkeeper had four excellent saves in the first 15 minutes before Raeanna Slack slipped into the box on an by Emma Hughes assist to hit goal giving the Dawgs a 1-0 advantage at the 20 minute mark of the game. The Bulldogs didn’t give up a shot on goal until less than a minute remaining in the first half. The second period was a defensive struggle as neither team could take advantage of opportunities making the final score 1-0 in favor of the host Bulldogs. Dawg goalkeeper Erin Ofori had 4 saves on the way to a shutout. The win gives the Lady Dawgs a 3-1 record in 3A Sunrise League play and 5-5-1 overall. The win also took away the sting of a big 5-1 loss to league leader Sunrise Mountain on Wednesday Sept. 26. Rainee Brito had the only goal for the Bulldogs. The will travel to Sky Points on Tuesday Oct. 2 in a rematch of Saturdays game. It will be another big week for the Dawgs as they host Chaparral on Thursday Oct 4.
Miners drop Bulldogs 7-0
The Virgin Valley Bulldogs offensive woes continued Wed. afternoon losing to league front runner Sunrise Mountain 7-0. It was the third loss in 3A play for the Dawgs and sixth in a row for the season. The Boy’s next game will be in Mesquite on Tuesday Oct.2 against Sky Pointe.
