The Virgin Valley High softball team had high hopes to end preseason on a positive note with their strong batting attack but sputtered against a trio of Trojan hurlers from Pahrump High School.
The Trojans allowed only three hits on their way to a five inning 10-0 shutout of the host Bulldogs.
The Trojans scored three runs in the first inning on two hits, single and double. Two hit batters and a walk from starter Savannah Price added to the scores.
The Dawgs threatened in the bottom of the first on a Kari Wakefield single and a walk but could not finish. Pahrump Valley added two more runs in the top of the second on only one hit.
The Dawgs threatened in the third putting their first three runners on base but failed to score.
Two errors by the Dawgs opened the flood gates in the top of the fourth inning allowing five runs to score on two singles. With the score standing at 10-0, the Bulldogs had one last opportunity to prolong the game but could not mount an attack.
Price began the fifth with a double but was stranded making the final score 10-0.
Hailey Cuellar got the win for the Trojans adding five strikeouts. Price had the loss for the Dawgs.
The Bulldogs preseason record fell to 8-7 with one game remaining. The Bulldogs traveled to Mojave High School on April 3 before opening 3A Sunrise League play at Boulder City on April 9.
The Dawgs first league game will be on April 11 against Del Sol High School.
