The Virgin Valley High School softball team continued its warmup to 3A Sunrise League play going 2-1 this past week defeating Sunrise Mountain 25-13, Desert Pines 15-7 and losing to Pahranagat Valley 13-1.
The Lady Dogs had their hitting helmets on against the Miners rapping out an amazing 25 hits in the win. Savannah Price led the Dogs hitting attack with 4 hits, followed by Nataly Ramirez, Jesse Barnum and Taylor Barnum with three hits. Price and Alexis Boatright had 5 RBI. Price started the game on the mound and was replaced by Calee Clem in the third inning and garnered the win.
In the March 21 game, the Bulldogs trailed Desert Pines 6-1 in the top of the third inning before rallying to score four runs in the bottom of the inning to trail 6-5. Price had an inside the park home run in the inning. The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the fourth inning putting up four runs to go up 9-6. The Dawgs added six more runs in the final inning for the 15-7 victory. Clem led all hitters with three, Price settled down on the mound to get a complete game win.
Friday’s matchup with the Panthers began as a 2-1 pitching duel between Price and the Panthers Ashlyn Wadsworth before the Dogs gave up five runs in the top of the fourth inning with the big blow a long triple to centerfield. The Dawgs could not recover from the 7-1 deficit.
The Panthers added six more runs in the fifth inning on only one hit to take a 13-1 lead. The Panthers finished the scoring to take the win 15-1. Leadoff hitter Kari Wakefield led the Dogs with two hits.
The Dawgs preseason record stands at 8-6 with two games remaining before 3A Sunrise League play begins on Monday April 9 at Boulder City.
