The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog basketball team could not overcome 24 turnovers Friday night losing to archrival Moapa Valley 71-61. The Bulldogs could not handle Pirate center Derek Reese who scored 29 points for the Pirates. The Bulldogs fell behind 18-13 after one period. The Dogs cut the Pirate lead to 32-28 at the break behind six points from Daxon Toone. Jayden Perkins added five points for the Dawgs. Toone had 11 points at the break to lead the Dawgs offense.

The Pirates began the second half of play with two three balls to take a 40-28 lead early. The Period ended with the Pirates up 54-38. The Pirates outscored the Dogs 22-10 in the quarter. Despite falling behind 65-47, the Dawgs would not quit as they outscored the Pirates 23-17 in the final period. Koden Tietjen had the final five points for the Dawgs to cut the Pirates lead to 71-61 as the final horn blew. Toone led the Bulldogs with 19 points followed by Perkins with 10 and Tietjen with 9 points. The loss dropped the Dawgs to 1-8 in 3A Sunrise League play and 4-19 overall for the season. The Dawgs host Boulder City on Jan.30 before traveling to Sky Point on Feb.1.
