The Virgin Valley High School girls basketball team won the two games that counted this week defeating two 3A opponents while losing in the last seconds to 1A Lincoln County.

The Bulldogs crushed Somerset-Sky Pointe Eagles, 52-11, on Wednesday night as the Dawgs led from start to finish. Stats for the game were not available. Friday night the Bulldogs traveled to Chaparral to face the Cowboys. The Lady Dawgs came away with a huge 62-47 win avenging a defeat during the Gator Classic in December.

The Bulldogs offense was sharp as they scored 19 points in each of the first two periods to take a 38-16 lead at the break. The Cowboys outscored the Dawgs in the second half but could not overcome the Dawgs halftime advantage. The Bulldogs used a well balanced attack to down the Cowboys with four Dawgs in double figures. Leading the way was Savannah Price with 18 points followed by Taylor Barnum with 13 points. Areli Ponce and Alexis Barnum contributed 11 points each in the winning cause.

The Bulldogs finished the week hosting Lincoln County on Saturday, Jan 13. The Lynx defeated the Dawgs in the final seconds, 46-45, to gain their second win over the Virgin Valley squad this season. The Dawgs lost by a total of only three points in two tough matches with Lynx.

The Bulldogs led 29-22 at the half but could not stop the Lincoln County rally in the last period. The Lynx outscored the Dawgs 15-8 in the fourth period. Boatwright led the Dawgs with 15 points followed by Ponce with 11 points and Price chipped in with 10 points.

The Lady Dawgs sit in second place in 3A Sunrise League play with a 5-1 record. The Bulldogs christen the new gym Thursday hosting Del Sol High School. The Dragons 1-4 in league play and lost to the Dawgs 33-25 in early December.
