Bulldog Andrew Memmott #23 skies for a three point shot during the Bulldogs 64-49 win over Silverado Thursday night in the Dawgs House. Memmott led the Dawgs with 7 boards plus 14 points.

The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs played their best first half of the season Thursday night in the Dawg House against 4A Silverado High School. The Dawgs rolled to a 38-21 advantage after one half of play. The Skyhawks were no match for the Bulldogs three point shot as the Dawgs put up six, four by Hogan Fowles. Fowles had 14 points at the break. Andrew Memmott added two three’s for the Dawgs. “Great teamwork and execution by us in the first half,” said Bulldog Coach Sean FitsZimons. “Our plan was to jump on them early in the first half, and we did.”

The Bulldogs behind three’s by Fowles and Memmott plus an inbounds steal by point guard Jarreett Tietjen gave the Dawgs a 10-4 advantage early in the first. Fowles added his second three to give the Dawgs a 17-14 lead. Fowles began the second period with another three plus a two to jump start a 9-2 run by the Dawgs. Fowles and Memmott would add a three each as the Dawg outscored the Skyhawks 21-7 in the period. Fowlws had 14 points at the break but was saddled with three fouls. Memmott added 10 points.

The Bulldog fans moaned when Fowles picked up his fourth foul 8 seconds into the third half of paly and had to be pulled from the game. The Bulldogs didn’t flinch as Jayden Perkins and Devin Cox picked up the slack. Perkins had six points to keep the Dawgs up 53-41 after three periods. Bulldog Reid Jensen made his presence known with three blocks.

The Dawgs had only two field goals in the fourth period, Fowles last three of the game plus a two from Perkins. Free throws from the Bulldogs clinched the game for the Dawgs 64-49. Fowles led all scorers with 17 points followed by 14 from Memmott, 12 from Perkins and 10 from Tietjen. Tietjen had a double-double with additional 10 assists. Jensen had five blocks for the Dawgs. “We needed a statement win going into league play, and I think we got one,” added Coach FitsZimons. The Dawgs will finish preseason play tipping off against Basic High School in the 16 team Tri-State Holiday Invitational on Tuesday Dec. 27 at Del Sol High School.
