The Virgin Valley High School girl basketball team was like night and day Dec. 7 and 8 as they ran over Cheyenne High School Wednesday by a score of 52-35 and were routed the next evening by Canyon Springs 50-28.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Desert Shields early behind 8 straight points by Brianna Todd. The Bulldogs led 15-8 after one period of play and increased their lead to 34-15 at the break. Todd led the Dawgs with 14 points. Bernice Fiso added six points and numerous rebounds. The Bulldogs went south in the third period managing only 4 points but still led 38-22 over the cold shooting Cheyenne squad. The Bulldogs finished with 14 points in the final period led by reserve Savannah Price’s 6 points. Todd finished with 14 points followed by Fiso with 10 points and Price chipped in 8 points to lead the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs followed up the win traveling to Canyon Springs to face a strong Patriot team Thursday evening. The Bulldogs were no match for the Patriots as they fell behind 30-16 after one half of play. The Patriots kept the pressure on in the final periods winning easily 50-28. Todd and Fiso had 24 of the Bulldogs 28 game points. Todd continued her hot hand with 16 points. The Bulldogs record fell to 4-3. The Bulldogs travel to Sunrise Mountain on Tuesday Dec. 13 before beginning play on Friday, Dec. 16 in their annual Bulldog Invitational Tournament at 6pm.
