On Oct. 27 at about 8:30 a.m. Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner was traveling on Mesquite Blvd when he observed a vehicle driving at a high speed and moving recklessly through other traffic. Chief Tanner conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the male driver and a female passenger had active warrants for their arrest. During the process of taking both suspects into custody, officers found crystal meth, marijuana, and prescription pain killers in the vehicle, as well as items which led officers to believe the suspects were part of a drug dealing operation possibly occurring at a local hotel. Mesquite officers and detectives were then able to make contact with multiple suspects inside a hotel room and observed more illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. While investigating the suspects and drugs inside the room, officers learned of a separate room where the drug dealing operation was occurring and were able to secure a search warrant for that room. Once inside the room with the search warrant, Mesquite officers found a female suspect in possession of multiple bags of meth and heroin which were setup and ready to distribute.
In all, Chief Tanner’s traffic stop and the subsequent drug investigation lead to eleven suspects being taken into custody, and a large amount of meth and heroin removed from Mesquite City streets.
