All,

I have lived in Mesquite for a long time and have witnessed incredible changes in our community. Like every community, some are good and some are not so good. Some push us forward and others allow us to fall a bit behind.

There is one change that I believe needs to occur. With all of the information available for people to make informed decisions about living a healthy life, I have chosen not to partake in smoking. I feel that if others choose to, that is their prerogative.

However, requiring clean indoor air means no secondhand smoke in workplaces and it means that every person living in this community would be able to earn a living without worrying about the dangers of secondhand smoke. Asking smokers to smoke outside is really not that big of a deal, and smoke-free workplaces would protect our workers in the most positive way.
