The recent NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition sponsored by the city of Mesquite’s Department of Athletics and Leisure Services was a huge success on Tuesday, Sept. 26. A large group of kids, with parents waiting for the action, competed in the event. Children from 6 to 15 got the opportunity to show their skills in three categories of football prowess.
Virgin Valley High School’s freshman football team helped Recreation Director Nick Montoya and his staff measure and track each youngster’s progress. The event was held at Hunter Park. The winners advance to Sectionals in Mesquite on Oct. 15 and will eventually compete at the new San Francisco 49ers Levi Stadium in California if they continue to be successful. Two competitors from last year’s event, Brooklin Montoya and Victoria Tausinga, managed to go all the way and compete at Levi Stadium. The winners of the age groups are as follows:
