The Virgin Valley High School tennis teams split wins against the Moapa Valley High School Pirates Tuesday afternoon in the Dawg Pound.

The Bulldog boy’s won 10-8 behind the strength of their doubles teams. The combination of Ryan Rushton and Tyler Wilson and Isaac Talahytewa and Kameron Cox who won all three sets against their opponents from Moapa Valley. Bulldog ace Chris Cannon went 2-1 in sets to lead the Dawgs singles.

The Dawgs trailed 2-4 after round one of the days match. They tied the Pirates by going 4-2 in the second round winning all doubles sets. The Bulldogs pulled the match out winning the third round 4-2 for a 10-8 victory. The Bulldogs league record went to 5-3 in league play. “The boys dug deep to pull this win over Moapa and Rancho last week,” said Bulldog coach Jon Felix. “Most thought we would lose those matches and I’m proud of how the boys stepped up to the challenges. Our seniors Chris Cannon, Ryan Rushton, Isaac Talahytewa, Austin Marshall and Tyson Wilson have been leaders for our team.” The Dawgs host TECH Thursday Sept.22.  

The Bulldog girl’s tennis team fell to the Pirates 10-8 Tuesday afternoon. Bulldog Emily Leavitt and Jackie Hughes did their part attempting to pull out the win going 3-0 in their singles matches for six points. Leavitt won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0. Hughes also dominated her sets 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1. Leavitt has had an outstanding season going 24-6 with two league matches remaning in the regular season. The Pirates won all nine doubles sets for the win. The Dawgs host TECH on Thursday.
