On August 13, at approximately 9p.m. a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle to investigate the driver for possibly being under the influence of alcohol or drugs due to the vehicle being unable to stay within the lane. While the officer was investigating whether the driver was under the influence the officer called for a drug sniffing dog to respond. The drug sniffing dog alerted to the presence of illegal drugs inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded an open container of alcohol which the driver had been drinking and multiple items of drug paraphernalia which been used at some point for ingesting heroin and cocaine. Officers also located inside the vehicle a fully loaded .38 caliber revolver, a fully loaded .223 caliber semi-automatic rifle, and a fully loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.

Once the officers located the drug paraphernalia and the firearms the driver, who was a convicted felon, attempted to flee from the police officers by running across traffic and into a dark field. After a short foot pursuit officers were able to catch the driver and safely take him into custody.

Landon Leavitt, 36, of Littlefield AZ, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of resisting arrest, one count of obstructing a public servant, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of failure to maintain travel lane, one count of no vehicle insurance, and one count of open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
