If you’d like to know what’s happening in Mesquite, check out the City Manager’s Forum this morning at Wolf Creek Golf Club. The forum begins at 8 a.m. and is an informal way to ask questions and voice your concerns or opinions.

It’s definitely summer in Mesquite and the temperatures are going to keep many residents inside but that doesn’t mean you have to be inactive. There is plenty of nighttime entertainment available at the Casablanca Showroom or you can dance the night away at the River Lounge at the Virgin River. Don’t forget the Seasons Ultra Lounge at the Eureka Resort Casino where you can catch one of your favorite singers, live bands or possibly discover a new favorite.

Have you been wanting to brush up on your computer skills, join a book club or maybe a French Film group? Check out the Mesquite Library and their extensive list of adult groups and clubs but don’t leave out the children. The library has a variety of youth programs to help keep the kids cool, entertained and learning throughout the summer.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is holding their reception for the ‘Surreal’ exhibit still on display through June 26. The reception set for this afternoon from 4 – 6 p.m. is free to the public. Winners of the competition, sponsored by the Bank of Nevada, will be announced during the reception. The completion and gallery exhibits are also sponsored in part by the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Check out their list of classes you can also join for a nominal fee.

Don’t forget the Mesquite Recreation Center for your summer enjoyment. There is a plethora of classes from easy to advanced that can help keep you fit, active and indoors during these extreme temperatures. If you prefer to keep cool outdoors there’s always the city’s two splash pads located at Hafen Park and the Mesquite Sports and Events Complex as well as the outdoor pool. The splash pads are free to the public.

We publish the current weekly events in the paper each week but there is so much more you can check out online at www.mesquitelocalnews.com under ‘Community Calendar’.

Send all your events to terin.bbm@gmail.com and I’ll help you spread the word to those who are still here to beat the heat this summer.
