Customers in the Overton Power District No. 5 service territory were affected by a system wide power outage after a lightning struck a power pole around 2:58 PM on Sunday March 6, 2016. The pole that started on fire was part of a three pole structure into the Tortoise substation located in Glendale, NV. Crews were dispatched immediately to assess the damage and initiate the necessary repairs.

Progress on the repairs was slower than initially anticipated, weather conditions were unfavorable and additional safety measures were required due to the high voltage of the transmission line affected. Crews worked through the night, reenergizing the power system at 6:50 AM on Monday March 7, 2016. Several areas in Mesquite remained without power through the course of Monday morning and our crews worked tirelessly until every customer had their power restored.

We would like to thank the linemen, construction and operations crews, office staff, emergency personnel, city and county personnel who worked not only to restore power in the areas affected but in keeping our communities safe in these unexpected circumstances.
