RUNDLE EDGES TIRED YEH

Things are warming up in Mesquite.  The MMGA back at it again in regular league play after their stunning loss to the OMGA in last week’s yearly Mesquite Cup Challenge.  Hal Rundle shot 37-40-77 to upset the weekly champion, Andrew Yeh by one shot.  “I’m still rusty after my three-week vacation in Neu York” Yeh said as he took scores in his “skins” game.  There may be something to that as Yeh had three birdies on the back side to record a great three under par 34 on the back for his 78.  Ken Ward shot a nice even par 35 on the front and added 44 on the back for third low gross at 79, Howard Nathe was from another place as he turned in a pair of 44’s for 88 and buried low net with a 63.  Bubba Petrick (81) was five shots back with 68.  Frank Vandeweghe (82) had a net 70 and Ben Bishop (83), who continues to play well from the forward tees, were tied for fifth. Vandeweghe got it with a nice par on 13 dropping Bishop into 6th.  Bubba Petrick, as he did last week, had the shot and the chip of the day.  On the par four third hole, from off the green and 50 feet from the hole he chopped up a five foot slanted hill and drove it dead in the jar for birdie.  On his last hole of the day, the par three 17, his tee shot from 160yds stopped three feet from the hole and he recorded his second birdie of the round.

YEH RECOVERS TO BEAT LE VAN BY THREE SHOTS

After a long trip to the east coast Andrew Yeh is back in his normal command position by winning medalist honors at CasaBlanca with a 39-37-76.  Paul LeVan tried to catch him with his own rounds of 37-42-79.  Pat Smitty moved up to the front tees and really enjoyed his day with his find rounds of 39-38-77.  He never hit his driver off the tees but preferred his three iron which put him in perfect position in the fairways.  Second net went to Manny Lira (87) and net 66.  Third low net was a tie between Joe Smith (80) and Tom Durenberger (83) which Smith won with his par on the first handicap hole.  Fifth place is going to be a six-way battle.  Ben Bishop (83), Jim Naccarato (85), Dave Shaw (90), Ed Hoepfner (82), Jim Smith (82) and Rory Tomsic (81) all tied at net 69.  Bishop shot par, bogey to take 5th.  Shaw’s bogey on the 5th hole awarded him the 7th low net position.  Tim Bergstrom (87) had the shot and hole of the day.  On the par five second hole he hit a seven iron to within two feet of the cup and nailed his putt for a “sweet” eagle three.  Great shot Tim!
