The Virgin Valley High School bulldog boys basketball team could not build on their recent blowout of Sunrise Mountain shooting poorly in a big game at Chaparral High School on Thursday, Feb. 4 losing 58-50. “We could not get our offense going in the first half,” said Bulldog coach Sean FitzSimons. The Dawgs trailed 9-8 after one period. The Cowboys jumped on the Dawgs in the second period 18-9 putting the Dawgs in a hole they could not work out of.

The Dawgs stayed with the Cowboys in the third period but still trailed 44-32. The Bulldogs had their best quarter outscoring the Cowboys 18-14 but it was not enough to slow down the Cowboys and lost 58-50. The Bulldogs shot 47 percent on two-point attempts but shot a dismal 5-22 on three point attempts.

Zach Barnum led the Dawgs with 19 points followed by Cody Jones with 11 points. The Dawgs only went to the line nine times for the game. The loss did not affect the Bulldogs third place standing going into first place Desert Pines on Monday, Feb. 8 but they must defeat Boulder City on Thursday Feb. 11 in their last regular season game.
