LE VAN NARROWLY ESCAPES BERGSTROM IN THE RAIN

Well the Mesquite rainy weather has been falling as much as the New York stock exchange.

Andrew Yeh went to New York to correct the collapse.  While he is gone Paul LeVan took advantage of his absence and got medalist honors at the Casa Blanca on Thursday.  Twenty-eight players teed it up under partly cloudy skies but with three holes to finish the fourth straight day of rain damped an otherwise nice January day.  Le Van had only one birdie but shot to very solid rounds of 39 to edge Tim Bergstrom’s attempt to win his first medal since joining the MMGA.  Bergstrom birdied the first two holes but trouble set in for the next few holes and shot 43 on the front.  He birdied 13 and 14 to play one under par until his bogey on 18 but the even par round on the back was his best in Mesquite and finished with 79.  Recent member Joe Smith had his best nine holes on the front side with birdies on one, seven and nine for a superb one under par 35, the best nine holes of the day.  Bergstrom’s nice round rewarded him with a net 64 for first place low net.  Bubba Petrick shot 81 and took second (LN) with a 68.  Smith’s nice round gave him a net 70 for third place.  Tom Durenberger (86) had a net 71for 4th.  Ed Hoepfner (85) took 5th with his net 73.  Neil Hendricks (85) was tied with Greg Sullivan (86) and Manny Lira (96) for the bottom spot with net 74’s.  Hendricks grabbed the prize when he parred the first handicap hole.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, Jan 12 th at 9:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday   Jan 14th at 9:00 at the CasaBlanca.
