Twenty brave MMGA members teed it up at Falcon Ridge on Nov. 10 to do battle with the cool weather and gusting winds.  Bill Irace with birdies on three and five managed to fire a hot three over par 38 than added another birdie on the par three 14th for a solid day of 79.  This created quite an outburst in the club house by one Andrew Yeh who’s 80 came up one short of medalist and he was crying that Irace’s round of 79 was “insane”.  Paul LeVan (88) and Clark Mitchell (84) each shot four over par 39’s on the front but both players collapsed on the back.  Jim Guttridge also had a superb round matching Irace’s three birdies with his own on five, ten and the number one handicap 13th hole finishing with a pair of 40’s and a first place low net honors of 69.  Manny Lira (93) and net 71 won second.  Gary Denhalter (93) and John Sabraw (97) were tied for third at net 73 which Denhalter won with a bogey on the first handicap hole and Sabraw double bogeyed for fourth place.  Clark Mitchell (84) and net 74 got the 5th spot.  Hal Rundle (89), Don Mannon (87) and Jeff Hoyt (87) were tied for 6th until Rundle earned it with a great birdie three on 13th.

On Nov. 12 at the Palms the MMGA members prepped for their upcoming annual club tournament this Saturday at the Palms and finishing Sunday at their home course Falcon Ridge.

Andrew Yeh was no surprise warming up with a 39-36-75.  New member Rick Scholl, the California sheriff, shot 40-36-76.  Frank Thomasino who hadn’t swung a club since April 10 shot a nice pair of 39’s for 78.  And veteran club champion Ron Manthey recorded 38-41-79.  Probably the only person to give Yeh a challenge, Tim Miller had a little trouble shooting a 41-42-83 but don’t count him out just yet.  Thomasino was rewarded first place low net with his 65.  Scholl was just two shots back with his net 67.  Delbert Moore (86) was tied for third net with Neil Hendricks (82) and Frank Vandeweghe (80) at 71 until Moore won third with his par five on the first handicap hole while Hendricks went bogey, par for fourth and Vandeweghe shot bogey, bogey for fifth.  The last spot was another tie between Jeff Hoyt (83), Dennis Simmons (89) and Hal Rundle (85) at net 73 which Hoyt won outright with a par five on the 4th hole.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, November 17th   at 8:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday November 19th at 8:00 at the Canyons.   Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at
