Most everyone recognizes October as Breast Cancer Month. During this month, our local Mesquite Cancer HELP Society “MCHS” is filled with an eventful calendar that focuses not just on breast cancer month, but all types of cancers affecting people.MCHS logo

“From breast to brain cancer to lung and stomach cancer, we stay on top of every client’s needs. This year we have been faced with great expectations of how well we can assist our clients” says Yoli Bell, Director of MCHS.

It only takes three or four clients to dispense $3,000 a month assisting with patients’ medical needs. MCHS does not stop at fuel assistance, prescriptions, or various medical tests. They have been able to fly patients to out of state cancer hospitals when required, provided monies for travel and stays in Loma Linda and The Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, to name a few.

Assistance with utilities, food, hospital equipment, etc. is available when a patient is unable to work due to cancer treatments. The list of their services is extensive and their dedication is limitless.

Beginning in October various local beauty salons and casinos commit to MCHS’s cause. They will communicate their support through the sale of hair extensions, pink ribbons supporting a survivor or someone who has succumbed to cancer, raffling off gift baskets, and other events.

On Oct. 16 and 17 the Christian Women’s Conference will dedicate the funds they raise to MCHS. The Zumbathon event at the Rec Center is most generous in their support of MCHS through their fundraiser which will take place on Oct. 20 at the recreation center. The annual Valley Rally Golf Tournament is in its fifth year. It is hosted by the Oasis Women’s Golf Association and The Oasis Golf Club.

All these entities are ready to go the extra mile in support of this valuable organization and continually stand with MCHS in the fight against cancer and for survivorship. The Valley Rally committee is also selling hole sponsorships for their golf tournament which are a key draw for many businesses who honor survivors. Countless friends and family also honor survivors and those who are no longer with us.

The public is invited to participate and join in making these events great and greater than last year. All monies stay in the Mesquite area to assist MCHS clients; no salaries are paid.

“Imagine, if every person in our City donated one dollar to our local cancer society every year during this busy fundraiser month. It would bring in over $17,000 that is greatly needed to keep this vital organization running at its maximum capacity. Together we can make a difference,” Bell explained.
