The Virgin Valley High School soccer guys continued their resurgence with a 6-1 defeat of the Eagles from Boulder City Thursday afternoon at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center. The win, the second in a row for the Dawgs after four losses in Sunrise League play, gives hope down the stretch for the Dawgs playoff run.

The Dawgs came out strong attacking the Eagle goal with five straight shots before forward Cristof Glad struck goal at the 11 minute mark of the game. Star forward Moise Medina made his presence known with two goals within three minutes to give the Dawgs a 3-0 advantage 16 minutes into the match. The Dawg offense disappeared for the next 24 minutes of the half as the teams played to a defensive standoff.

The second half of play began with the Eagles controlling the ball with excellent passing to the dismay of Bulldog coach Mike Pletzke who exhorted his squad to attack the ball. The Eagles got on the scoreboard on a goal by Caden Mendiola cutting the Dawgs lead to 3-1 six minutes into the period. The Bulldogs offense’s doldrums continued until the 27th minute of the half when Bulldog Miguel Escobedo struck goal. Escobedo followed two minutes later with another goal giving the Dawgs an insurmountable lead of 5-1. Escobedo would gain the ‘hat trick’ with his third goal 20 seconds before the match ended for a final of 6-1 in favor of the Dawgs. Medina finished with two goals and two assists to lead the Dawgs offense. The win gives the Dawgs a 2-4-1 conference record going into next week’s matches against Sunrise Mountain in Las Vegas on Monday before returning home to host Chaparral on Wednesday October 14 and Desert Pines on Friday October 16.
