Residents are advised to beware of a scam letter that tells recipients they have been awarded a prize of $750,000 and to contact an agent about how to claim the bogus award. The return address on the letter lists the Clark County Treasurer and the address of the Clark County Government Center.
The County has alerted the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Postal Inspector of the letter.
“This letter was not generated by our office,” said Assistant Treasurer Rebecca Coates. “We only found out about it when some of the letters were returned to our office. We’ve alerted the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Postal Inspector. Those who receive the letter should not respond to it.”
The letter features a seal of the U.S. Department of State and purports to be from the American Cash Award Organization and tells recipients that “Your payment will be processed and must leave our office within 5 business days of opening your file…. You are eligible for a lump sum payout to your preferred bank account…. To avoid delays you must keep this award confidential until your claim is processed and money is remitted into your account.”
