The SUNYFL 3rd Grade Youth Football started off where they left off after their buy week. “Defense was in full swing, kids were flying to ball and it was not just one or two to the party it was 8-10 on the ball.” said Justin Ludvigson, defensive coach.
The youngsters beat Canyon View 33-0 on Saturday at the Sports and Event Complex in Mesquite, Nevada, “it was a great day for football and the kids were ready to play after the bye week and they showed it,” commented Jared Johnson of the 3rd grade team.
“Canyon View is an impressive sized team,” said Nick Montoya, head coach. “They had a great running back that could turn some speed on if we let him break it; defensively we kept him in check.”
The Bulldogs scored early to take an 8-0 lead that was run down to the 8 yard line by Decker Lee with a 65 yard blast off the right side of our offensive line of Hollingshead and Rivera. Lee finished it with a 8 yard run for the Touchdown and then the two point conversion pass from (Mason) Montoya to (Koby) Perry.
But again our defensive monsters up front with the rotation of Noel, Montoya, Perkins, Jordan, Jolley and Mendanhall were unstoppable. Perkins and Jordan caused 3 fumbles and Mendanhall pounced on 2 of them and he also finished with 3 sacks. The linebackers of M. Hughes, Johnson, Hollingshead and Ludvigson are consistent and solid run stoppers.
Defense was the name of the game for the Dogs in the second half. We were consistent in our game plan and shut down their run game and didn’t give up one first down in the half. “I was very impressed with our aggression and focus in the second half, you don’t see that from seventeen 8 year old boys to often; they go get it done.” said Montoya. “If we come to play like that, there isn’t a team that can beat these youngsters…..their defense is just too good.”
The 3rd Grade Dogs are looking to keep the streak alive; Saturday the 26 of September they will be visiting the Snow Canyon Warriors at Warrior Stadium.
