Virgin Valley High School’s lady volleyball team completely dominated an over-matched Sunrise Mountain High School team in three matches 25-10, 25-10 and 25-16. The win gave the Dawgs a 9-4 record for the season and importantly a 1-0 record in league play. “The girl’s, are working on their serves and getting better each game,” said Bulldog coach Lori Barnum. “Our goal is to hold teams to 10 or less points for the games. We were close tonight.”
The Dawgs behind eight straight points by Janella Fiso plus front line play by sister, Bernice Fiso and Emma Barnum easily won the first match 25-10. The second match of the evening was a repeat of the first as the Dawgs won 25-10. Bulldog coach substituted freely throughout the match giving reserves game experience. The Dawgs jumped out to a 21-7 advantage in the final match of the night before the Miners rallied to make the final game score 25-16.
Bernice Fiso led the Dawgs with 10 kills for her evening work. Janella Fiso was outstanding with 21 assists and 10 service aces. Emma Barnum had an all-around good night with 6 kills, 3 aces and 5 assists. The Lady Dawgs travel to 0-3 Chaparral on Monday September 21 and 0-1 Desert Pines on Thursday Sept 24 for league matches before returning to host last year’s league champion Boulder City on Tuesday September 29. The Eagles are currently 6-4 for the season.
