TUESDAY: MMGA ON THE “HOLLOW” ROAD
Tuesday may have been the hottest day of the year and if so the MMGA took the right day to travel to St George and their favorite golf course Sand Hollow. But at the end of the day only one player would agree to that statement. That was the never aging swing of Ron Manthey who led the 16 golfers with a nice pair of 39’s for a medalist score of 78. Next best were Ken Ward and Andrew Yeh with 80. Ward’s second place finish was the best low net score of 69. After that the net scores soared well into the 70’s. Some of the players at the end of the day wished they had gone to Kohl’s instead. Ken Ward had the shot of the day on the par four fifth hole. He pushed his drive over on the left side of the fairway and into the bunker. He was about 122yds out as he hit his second shot, from the red clay bunker to within 3 feet of the pin and made the putt for a “sweet” birdie three and double junk!
THREE WAY TIE AT THE PALMS
Andrew Yeh, sustaining a foot injury while playing basketball, was not up to his usual game on Thursday at the Palms golf course. Two birdies and a “guad” nine on the par five 15th hole allowed two other players to share medalist honors with him. Yeh shot 36-43-79 while Bubba Petrick 41-38-79 and Tom Durenberger recorded a round of 40-39-79. Yeh’s par four on the difficult par four 18th awarded him low gross for the day. Durenberger edged out Petrick 69 to 70 for first place low net. Petrick’s second place net moved him back into second place in the summer net tournament and Durenberger moved back into third. Manny Lira continues to fight his way back with a third place low net tie and moved him into the fifth spot.
The next scheduled play is Tuesday, August 25th at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday August 27th at 9:03 at the CORAL CANYON for the last day of the summer tournament.
