All Mesquite area schools will be back in session starting Monday, August 24, 2015. The Mesquite Police Department would like to remind motorists and pedestrians of the city’s school zone locations and hours in which the reduced speeds will be enforced. All school crossing zones within the city have been clearly marked as crosswalks and have proper signage/lights warning motorist to slow down.
Virgin Valley Elementary School Zones:
- Mesquite Boulevard and Arrowhead Lane is a 25 mile per hour school crossing zone from 7:30 am to 9:15 am and again at 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be crossing guards posted at this location to assist students crossing the roadway.
- Sandhill Boulevard and Old Mill Road is a 25 mile per hour school crossing zone from 7:45 am to 9:15 am and again at 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be crossing guards posted at this location to assist students crossing the roadway.
Hughes Middle School:
- Hafen Lane in front of the middle school is a 15 mile per hour school crossing zone from 7:10 am to 7:55 am and again at 2:08 pm to 2:40 pm. Hafen Lane is extremely busy especially in the afternoon when the middle school aged children are released from school for the day. There are no crossing guards posted on Hafen Lane.
Please pay special attention to your speed and watch out for children and crossing guards. Remember, children can be unpredictable, especially in school crossing zones. Also, be alert for school buses loading and offloading children at schools and in neighborhoods. Remember, it is illegal to pass a school bus that has a stop sign deployed and flashing warning lights activated.
