Preliminary investigation revealed that on June 6, 2015, at approximately 8:26 a.m., a white 1999 Ford Ranger was southbound on I-15, south of mile marker 120 in the number one travel lane. The right rear tire of the Ford failed and its left side traveled off the east roadway edge.

The driver, 18 year old Ciara Jackson from Cedar City, UT, over corrected the steering to the right causing the Ford to rotate in a clockwise direction. The Ford traveled off the right roadway edge and overturned. Jackson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. The Ford came to rest on its right side facing northwest in the desert area, west of southbound IR-15.

Jackson succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. The 19 year old male passenger, also from Cedar City, UT, was transported to Mesa View Hospital with minor injuries. This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s 31st fatal collision for 2015.
