It’s that wonderful time of year when the trees leaf out, desert cactus begins blooming, and the flowers begin to show all of their beautiful colors. And so does the work continue at the Heritage Garden on Hafen Lane. Many of us love to have our hands in the dirt helping to make things grow. No matter what types of veggies you like, they can be found growing at the Heritage Garden.
On the first Saturday of their spring break six Interact Club students from Beaver Dam High School came in early to help the organizers of the Heritage Garden with a project they wanted done. While some of the students started building a new compost bin for the garden, others rolled up their sleeves and disassembled the old, rotting bins and transferred the debris to a burn pit.
The Beaver Dam High School Interact Club is sponsored by the Mesquite Rotary Club. The club was started 4 years ago to help youth learn about community service and the ideal of “Service Above Self.” Volunteerism and community service are vital elements every community counts on and needs. Not only did the students at BDHS help through community service, they had a great time helping them out at the Heritage Garden.
