Rec Center Closed Sunday for Easter

Due to the Easter holiday on Sunday, the Recreation Center will be closed. They will resume their regular schedule on Monday, April 6, 2015.

Spring Water Programs 2015

The Mesquite Recreation Center is offering several water programs; the outdoor pool will be available for lap swimmers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 5 – 6:45 a.m., beginning April 13, 2015. This time is designed for a total workout that is controlled by the participant which gives them an opportunity to refine their strokes.

Another way to get your workout before going to work is being part of the Deep Water Aerobics & Water Aerobics class which is offered 6 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7 – 7:45 a.m. in the outdoor pool and at 8 – 8:45 a.m. at the outdoor pool. This class will be a total body workout for participants with little to no impact on joints. Weight belts will be used to help participants float. This class is perfect for anyone that is looking to build some muscle and tone up, but especially those with joint or arthritis problems.

Family Swim Night will be held at the outdoor pool and will be hosted every Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6 – 8:30 p.m. This will beginning in April 13, 2015.

Early Morning Lap Swimming

Get a jump start on your day with a 5 a.m. – 7 a.m. early morning lap swim at the outdoor pool. The program is held on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. There is a nominal fee if you are not a member, call the recreation center for details. This program is to try to accommodate those individuals that cannot make it to the facility in the evening.

Not only will you get a great workout there is the social interaction of others within the program and of course it’s for Men and Women. There is a fee for this program if you are not a member, please inquire at the facility or online. This program will Beginning April 13, 2014 and run to the end of summer.

Heart Saver CPR & AED Class

Bystander CPR and AED use course covers American Heart Association guidelines for CPR in adult, child, and infant in one person rescuer. Participants will follow the AHA curriculum which provides frequent practice of CPR and AED skills. Participants will demonstrate conscious choking maneuvers. This course is not recommended for those requiring a healthcare level training. AHA 2 year validation card will be issued following the course, Course length 2-3 hours.

Make sure to bring water and wear comfortable clothing. There are fees included to participate in the class, please inquire on these with the Recreation Center, we ask that you pre-register for the class. The deadline to register is April 6, 2015 at 9 p.m.. The class will be held (Thursday) April 9, 2015 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Mesquite Community/Senior Center. Classes are taught by Belinda Guglielmo a certified instructor.

New Pickleball Open Gym Hours

Come learn the game that is taking America by storm – Pickleball! It is the fastest growing sport in the country with courts popping up all over the place. People of all ages are able to learn quickly and that is the beauty of the game. It is affordable and can be enjoyed by people of all skill levels and physical abilities.

The Athletics and Leisure Services Department has set up three courts inside the Recreation Center Facility for Pickleball play. The open Pickleball will be from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for social play and then from 1:30 – 4 p.m. for beginner instruction and advanced play.

The days will be Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (social) and then from 1:30 – 4 p.m. for (beginner instruction and advanced).  The courts are located at the Mesquite Recreation Center in the West Gymnasium. The recreation Center will have limited paddles and balls but you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you have the items.

Wear comfortable clothing; gym shoes (non-marking soled shoes) bring a sweat towel, and a bottle of water.  Open spots may be available on a “drop in basis only” there are fees included if you do not possess a membership to the facility, please inquire on these with the Recreation Center facility upon entry.
