She dabbled in oil paints for about a year when she was 20-21 years old when her younger sister gave her an oil painting set as a Christmas gift. Leppala took up painting again in 2003 and did a few oil paintings then. It was not until 2006 when she discovered acrylic paints that she knew she had found the medium she wanted to work with and has enjoyed it ever since. Landscapes are her preferred subject but she has also done paintings with animals and people. Waterfalls and rushing water are her favorite subjects. On completion of each of her works she varnishes them for durability. This is also to assure she won’t keep going back continually adjusting something in the painting. Less is more with art work!

As a retiree from Paulden, AZ, Sally moved to Mesquite in 2013 to be closer to family in the area and joined the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery in 2014. Her exhibit will run from March 30th to May 2nd at the gallery located at 15 West Mesquite Boulevard. Come visit and see one of our newest member’s works.
