SCHNICK BEATS HAWKINS BY THREE STROKES
What happened to the daylight? With the 2015 version of daylight savings time the MMGA players teed it up at 0700 long before the sun rise and on very wet greens. Who schedules these times anyway? At the end of the morning, as the temps were warming up, the best players from the forward tees and the back tees, battled it out for medalist honors. Mr. William Schnick went about his normal business and shot 36-39 for a two over par 75. He had two birdies but his double bogey on the 10th hole prevented him from an even better round. Jon Hawkins shot a pair of 39’s and subsequently lost by three shots. Pat Smitty and playing partner Tom Durenberger shot identical rounds of 38-45-83. But the handicap differences awarded Smitty first place low net at 66. Durenberger, at net 70, was tied with Joel Reilly (92) and Jim Guttridge (86) for second. Durenberger was given second with a bogey, double bogey as Guttridge shot bogey, triple bogey for third. Reilly, with a double bogey on 13 dropped into 4th place. Delbert Moore, with his second consecutive good round of 88 and net 71 won the fifth and last payoff position.
The MMGA members teed it up on the Canyons golf course on Thursday playing a 4-club challenge. Players used a variety of clubs to putt with rather than their normal putter like a driver, a wedge and a rescue club. The following is a list of players that won in their categories.
