Virgin Valley Artists Association announces upcoming workshops that can allow the opportunity to craft a handmade Valentines gift for a special someone.

Katherine Cole will repeat her popular basic bead stringing jewelry class on Friday, February 6, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Art Classroom adjacent to the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery.  Katherine will provide step-by-step introduction to materials and tools.  Students will design, string, and finish a single strand necklace using beading wire and crimps and clasp, as well as learn to wire-wrap loops while creating a pair of earrings.  Students will either complete a project in class or have adequate understanding to complete it at home.

Class cost is $35, which pays for instruction, beading materials, sharing of tools, a bead mat and needles.  The class size is limited, and advance registration is required to allow preparation of materials for all who will attend.  A signup sheet and materials list is posted at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery; students should contact Katherine at 775-750-6222.

Jewelry Workshop Beads

Saturday, February 7, 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. is the time for mosaics enthusiasts to gather at the Art Classroom for Joyce Flower’s mosaic workshop.  Advanced signup and information is posted at the Gallery.  This workshop is open to 20 students, and always fills up because it is so much fun.  Students need to bring their own hammer, an old cloth to break tile, safety glasses and gloves.  Joyce provides tile and small mirrors and blackboards for student use.  Students can bring small items such as special decorative tiles or stones to incorporate into their project.  Other base objects such as small stools or tables make attractive mosaics, and students can bring their own to decorate.  Cost of the workshop is $20.  Bring a friend!  For more information, Joyce can be reached at 406-830-4147.

Katherine Cole makes fine jewelry. She will teach beginning beading on Feb 6.

Kathleen Birkholz, manager of the VVAA Pottery Studio, says experienced potters can advance their skills in glazing and ceramic construction with lessons offered at Room 30 at the Mesquite Campus, near the ball fields. The full-service pottery facility is open to the public for lessons in pottery construction and for studio time. Because of the individuality of pottery instruction, those who are interested in learning the craft should stop by Room 30 to select the right class option.  More information on studio hours is available at the Gallery.

VVAA also offers ongoing classes in drawing and dry media, watercolor painting, acrylic and oil painting.  Come to the Gallery for information and enrollment for those classes.  The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite Nevada, open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.  Phone 702-346-1338, or see www.mesquitefineartscenter.com.
