MLN-Beadingnov6-14Beading is a fun and fanciful craft for all skill levels, and now is the time to learn to make jewelry for the holidays.  On Thursday, November 13, Katherine Cole, one of Mesquite’s best jewelry makers, offers a “Stringing Jewelry 101” workshop to help you get started in this artful pass time.  Katherine is well known for her inventive and intricate jewelry designs, and her pieces are popular among local residents. She teaches this 4- hour class at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center classroom, 1-5pm.

Katherine will provide step-by-step introduction to materials and tools.  Students will design, string, and finish a single strand necklace using beading wire and crimps and clasp, as well as

Learning to wire-wrap loops while creating a pair of earrings.  Students will either complete a project in class or have adequate understanding to complete it at home.

The class costs $35, which pays for instruction, beading materials, sharing of tools, a beadmat and needles.  Class size is limited, and advance registration is required to allow preparation of materials for all who will attend.   For those who wish to purchase their own tools, WalMart sells jewelry tool kits for about $8 and $15.

Reservations must be made by sign up at Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, 15 West Mesquite Blvd.   The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.   Reservations or cancellations must be received at least 24 hours in advance.  Katherine Cole can be reached at 775-750-6222.
